Ameya lived abroad with her parents and went to a wedding in India for the first time. She was both excited and worried about how she would fit in with her extended family. She enjoyed the wedding shopping and the elaborate wedding celebrations. However, she was hesitant to speak in Marathi and Hindi, the region’s local languages, fearing that she would sound odd and make mistakes. So did Ameya talk in her native language? Did she connect with her family?
We picked this book for its beautiful cover. The book nicely shows a little girl's self-discovery journey of accepting and sailing in two different worlds. The illustrations definitely score full marks. They captured the essence of an Indian wedding adorably.
