Cake Mix

Different is okay!

Remy is from a mixed-race family and is starting a new school. Her new class is small, and she anticipates making friends immediately. Her classmates, however, criticize her appearance, and Remy struggles to fit in with the new crowd. She sobs and returns home disappointed. On the other hand, her mother has an idea that works well with Remy and her classmates.

We picked this book for its title. The plot is about a young girl who faces discrimination from her new classmates and overcomes it with the support of her mother. The illustrations complement the story perfectly.

Cake Mix, written by Mikki Hernandez and illustrated by Victoria Lewis, can help educate about diversity and inclusion via a simple plot.
