Evie is a timid chicken. She lives with Annie, Belinda, Cutie, and Darlin on the farm. Even though the other chickens are older, they aren't any nicer to Evie. After a while, the older chicks lay eggs, but Evie does not. So Evie hides from everyone until her owner calms and cuddles her. Will Evie lay an egg?
We picked this book for its cover. The plot revolves around the life of a shy chicken who overcomes adversity with the help of her owner. Illustrations are cheerful and enjoyable. The book can also teach about different chicken breeds.
Will Evie Ever Lay an Egg? by Michelle Marcotte is a good read for young children, thanks to Seema Haider's joyful illustrations and the message of kindness for all.
